We spend most of our waking hours at work. It makes sense, then, that we should put some effort into crafting our job into something that is good for our soul as well as our resume.

The best place to start is in your mind. Depending on your personality you may like to begin with daydreaming or by writing a list; either way, take the time to concoct a picture of your ideal job. Think through what kind of tasks your ideal job would entail, what kind of people it would team you with, the sort of workplace it would require. It’s fine to begin generally, but the more you can hone it into specifics the easier it will be for you to begin your actual job search.

Standing apart from your competitors, especially in a candidate-rich market, can seem an impossible task. There will always be someone more qualified, more confident, more connected than you.
