It may surprise some graduates to know that employers don’t decide to hire a job candidate based on qualifications and personality alone.

Although having a specific skills base is essential for many positions, these skills are not the only element that you will need to complete your job successfully. Seasoned employers also know to look for graduates who are strong communicators, as well as graduates who have taken the initiative to gain experience within their chosen industry.

It’s common to talk yourself out of your suitability for a role before you’ve even entered into the application process. We all doubt ourselves. The important thing is to recognise when we are doing this and to then turn these thoughts around.

The fact of the matter is that there will be many “right” candidates for one role. A shortlist is effectively a group of “right” candidates. Each could carry out the job; it’s generally a candidate’s personal attributes rather than technical know-how that ultimately set them apart.

Believing that you are this winning candidate comes down to mindset. There are certain methods you can use to help you build a robust mindset.
Post from: redgiraffesearch.com

Why You are the Right Candidate

Body language is a powerful communicator. Often it’s subconscious behavior, and for this reason it is usually an expression of truth.

Cuing into the motions and postures of your interviewer can help you understand how they are responding to you, and enable you to adjust your verbal communication accordingly.
Post from: redgiraffesearch.com

Use Body Language to Gain an Interview Edge

We form much of our impression of people within the first minute of meeting. Body gestures, speech, dress all contribute to how we view someone – and they us.

In an interview all of this is heightened. Interviews are purely about judgement, so interviewers are on high alert for small cues that will tell them what kind of person you are beneath your qualifications. Knowing this can throw many candidates. Time and again candidates will discount themselves for the job in the first 60 seconds of an interview, simply by not paying attention to some unspoken rules.

Going into an interview can be very intimidating. The night before you find yourself sitting nervously in front of the mirror, practicing just the appropriate way to sit, to laugh and to smile. You recite with just the right air of confidence your strengths and your achievements. You've got it down pat and you're ready to go. But are you? What happens when you are asked about your weaknesses? Do you freeze up, start stammering or change the subject? If so, then it's time to get prepared!
Post from: redgiraffesearch.com

Turn your weaknesses into strengths

As the employment climate has changed, to some extent so has recruitment criteria. Companies have more qualified applicants to choose from and can demand the highest levels of education, experience and personalities from the people they choose to fill their vacancies. For example, insistence on a graduate degree is becoming the accepted norm.
Post from: redgiraffesearch.com

The Fine Line of Arrogance Vs Confidence
